Built for the Lakeland

Northern winters, lake wind and boreal forest. What a Cold Lake roof has to take.

Cold Lake sits about 300 km northeast of Edmonton in Alberta's Lakeland, with an air force base inside city limits and forest and lakes all around. Winters are long and cold, wind comes across open water, and wildfire season is part of life in the north. Below: what an Interlock® aluminum roof handles, and what it leaves to you and your insurer.

Winter

Long, cold and hard on shingles

Snow can sit on a Cold Lake roof for months, and the thaw at each end of winter refreezes overnight. Water works into asphalt and cedar and opens them a little more each time. Aluminum takes on no water and cannot rust, and the panels lock to each other on all four sides.

Ice dams

Snow guards, and the attic

Snow slides off aluminum, so we put snow guards on the quote above doors, decks and driveways. Ice dams start when heat leaking into the attic melts snow that refreezes at the eaves. The material warranty excludes ice damming; we look at your insulation and ventilation with you instead of promising the roof will prevent it.

Wildfire

Forest at the edge of town

Much of the Lakeland is boreal forest. FireSmart Alberta warns that wind-blown embers can travel long distances and land on a roof, recommends Class A roofing, and advises against wood shakes. We can build the roof as Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly, with two layers of GAF VersaShield® over 12 mm (15/32-inch) plywood. Aluminum does not burn; no roof is fireproof.

Lakes

Homes by the water

From Cold Lake itself to Jessie Lake at Bonnyville, many homes face open water, and wind off a lake has nothing to slow it. Interlock panels have concealed fasteners, and wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification.

Moving on

If a posting moves you

Cold Lake is home to CFB Cold Lake and 4 Wing, and a posting can mean selling the house. The Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty from Interlock Roofing covers the material and finish while the original purchaser owns the home and can be transferred once, so it can go with the house to the next owner.

Permits

City or MD

Cold Lake is almost entirely surrounded by the MD of Bonnyville but is a separate municipality, so a roof inside the city falls under the City of Cold Lake and a roof outside it under the MD. Bonnyville has its own town office. Whether a re-roof needs a permit depends on the work; we confirm it for your address.

Why Cold Lake homeowners choose aluminum

A Cold Lake roof you put on once. And a company that stays accountable.

Our crews

We install it ourselves

Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. sends its own crews to every Cold Lake roof. The company that measures and prices it is the one that installs it and answers for the labour warranty.

Slate

The Cold Lake choice

Most Cold Lake roofs in our job book are Slate. Cedar Shingle and Shake give a wood look, Mediterranean Tile a tile look, and Standing Seam a clean line, in nine colours. Each needs a slope of at least 3/12.

Weight

Easy on the structure

The panels weigh roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre, a fraction of concrete tile. That suits an older house or a lake cabin; we still inspect the rafters and decking and write any repair into the quote.

Tear-off

What has to come off

Any cedar, concrete tile or natural slate on the house now is removed before we start. A single layer of asphalt can stay only if the inspection finds it suitable, and the quote says which applies.

Labour

Our own labour warranty

On top of the manufacturer's material warranty, we give our own 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty on the installation, in writing with the contract.

Canada

Made in Canada

The panels are made by Interlock Roofing in Delta, BC, and installed by an Alberta company, Canadian owned and operated since 1999.

Recycled

Up to 95% recycled aluminum

And the last tear-off your house is likely to need.

Straight answers

Cold Lake roofing questions, straight answers.

All of our answers ↗

Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Cold Lake?

We do. Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. is the certified Interlock® roofing contractor for Alberta, founded in 1999, and our own crews install every Cold Lake roof. Our only office is in Calgary; there is no Lakeland or Edmonton-area office, so the consultation is on Zoom or at your home. The panels are made in Canada by Interlock Roofing at its plant in Delta, BC. We are BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, Baeumler Approved, and a 2026 GuildQuality GuildMaster Award winner.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Cold Lake?

It depends on the work. Inside the city, permits are the City of Cold Lake's; outside it, the MD of Bonnyville's; Bonnyville has its own town office. Structural repairs such as rebuilt decking are the usual reason a permit is needed. We confirm it for your address and include any permit in the written quote.

How does a metal roof handle hail and storms in Cold Lake?

Well, but no roof is immune to hail. Insurance Bureau of Canada puts Alberta's hail damage at about $6 billion over the five years to 2025. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products, and wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification. The material warranty excludes hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in), so storm damage is a matter for your home insurance.

Which communities does coldlakeroofing.com cover?

Cold Lake, Bonnyville and the MD of Bonnyville, including Ardmore, Cherry Grove, Pelican Narrows and Iron River. St. Paul, Elk Point and the rest of Northern Alberta are on edmontonmetalroofing.com: the same company, crews and warranties.

Does the warranty transfer if I sell after a posting?

The Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty covers the material and finish for as long as the original purchaser owns the home and can be transferred once to the next owner; workmanship is excluded. Our 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty is a separate document, and its own terms say how it applies on a sale.

What does a metal roof cost in Cold Lake?

Our cost page shows real contract prices from Interlock® roofs signed in the Edmonton and Northern Alberta market in 2025 and 2026. Treat them as a rough guide only: prices vary from job to job with structural and other conditions, and an in-home roof consultation is required for an accurate price. The consultation and the written quote are free.
